Maggie and Derek knew of each other while studying at BYU, but rarely crossed paths. One of their first real interactions was in the summer of 2022 while they were both interning in NYC and Jack and Caigen invited a group of interns over to their apartment for lunch. Another early (and memorable) interaction they had was at Zak Osmond’s Fuego Friday Halloween party where one of them was dressed up in scrubs and the other was dressed up as the Joker, with full face paint and green hair (will leave it to everyone to guess who was who).

 

After Maggie graduated from BYU, she moved back NYC where Derek had already been living for a year. On Maggie’s first Sunday in New York, she attended the same church Derek was at and saw a familiar face and went up to say hi to Derek. Shortly after, Derek started scheming with his friends how he was going to ask Maggie out. Their first date was to the driving range at Chelsea Piers followed by ice cream at Anita Gelato. After that first date, there were many fun dates in New York City – from sushi dinners beneath the Prada store in SoHo, walks thru Central Park, and many trips the MET. Their common love for travel also sparked many adventures to California, Utah, Florida, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Europe.​
